Born in Lebanon and raised in Canada, I have an abundant amount of satisfaction to have the opportunity to grow up in a sensational part of the world that has allowed me to cultivate culinary passion far beyond my hometown cuisine. As a wife and mother of 3 beautiful kids, who all seem to have different palates I try to make easy recipes that will fuel them and help open up their eyes to foods from other cultures.
Our family dinners and gatherings with friends always seem to be centered around an abundant amount of food. I love how food seems to draw us together and create many memories for generations to come.
Many of my past memories are of large family and friends gathering with many different types of food. Coming from a family of seven children my mother always cooked large pot of food. Often am told that I get my passion for cooking from my mother and mother-in-law and aunts, and I have to admit I learnt a lot from all of them. However, some of my fondest memory is at the age of 7 or 8 watching my grandmother make large portions of preserves from trees in their own yards such as figs, apricots, and cherries. Pickled jars of cucumbers, turnips and of course olives which are also grown and harvested on their land. Harvesting many types of grains like lentils, wheat, chickpeas using a hand sickle. Now a days, everything is done by machines, however, I’ll never forget the image of my grandfather using a horse powered threshing machine used in the final stage of harvesting the grains to separate the seeds from the stalks by hand-feeding it into the machine. Every once in a while he would let us ride on the horse wagon while it goes around in rhythmic circles, and of course the best part is the home made Saj bread.
