Sfouf (Samolina Turmeric Cake)
Ingredients
- Dry Ingredients
- 1 cups fine semolina # 1
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsps ground Turmeric
- 1 Tbsp of baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 cup of Canola oil
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted ( melted)
- 1 3/4 cups of warm milk ( or almond milk)
- 1 1/2 cup of white sugar
- Garnish
- 3/4 cup of sliced almonds (for top decoration-optional)
Instructions
- Brush the bottom and sides of the pan 30 cm deep cake pan with Tahina paste or 1 tbsp of butter
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a bowl combine dry ingredients (flour, semolina, baking powder, salt cardamom and turmeric.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the milk, vanilla and sugar, and then add the dry mixture and oil and beat on low-medium for 1-2 minutes (this step is very important).
- Pour the mixture in greased pan. If using garnish on top then sprinkle with sliced almonds, sesame seeds or leave as is. ( I’ve make it with and without)
- Bake on middle rack of your oven for 30 minutes or until inserted wooden tooth pick comes out clean.
- Remove and let to cool before serving. If not using a garnish, for an extra flavor and glistering top Brush the top layer with melted butter.
